A group of six hands holding each other to form a circle.Research has consistently shown the immense benefit of social emotional learning on academic achievement and overall healthy development.

The importance of social emotional well-being and its impact on learning is undeniable. It is at the fabric of every school, every classroom, every student, and every teacher. But what we teach and how we teach and prioritise social emotional learning (SEL) can ultimately determine the longer-term benefits to school communities.

Our suite of SEL programs comprising KooLKIDS (primary years program) and Mindfields (secondary school program) span the course of childhood and adolescent development, and are developed over years of research and based on the most robust theoretical and evidence-based frameworks. Both KooLKIDS and Mindfields programs are fully manualised. They both align with the Personal and Social Capabilities within the National Curriculum and map to curriculum areas such as Health and Physical Education within select Year levels. Each program offers lesson plans, scripts for staff to utilise, and worksheets.

Objectives

The overall aim with our SEL programs is to support students, teachers, and school communities to ‘grow and go’:

  • To support students, teachers, and school communities to develop confidence in delivering SEL materials, to focus on growing their own SEL practices, and to go forward with SEL confidently, embedding it as a core part of the school curriculum and community.
  • To work with school leadership teams to understand the state of social emotional learning and well-being of their communities, teachers and students, and to determine the best strategies and programs for implementation.
  • To create a community of inquiry, whereby staff become the ‘researchers’ and share knowledge with peers and colleagues on social emotional learning and well-being.
