We're delighted to congratulate Learning Lab affiliate Dr Glenys Oberg, now a lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland, on the publication of her book Creating Trauma-Informed Classrooms: A Compassionate Approach to Supporting Students and Educators (Routledge, 2026).
The book is a practical, research-informed guide for teachers and student-support staff working with children and young people affected by trauma. Drawing on empathy, understanding and resilience as the cornerstones of trauma-informed care, it offers strategies to promote emotional regulation, foster resilience, and recognise each student's unique strengths, illustrated throughout with case studies and classroom-ready ideas.
Glenys completed her PhD with the Learning Lab's Professor Annemaree Carroll and Dr Stephanie MacMahon, and the book builds on that research, including their work together on the impact of secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue and burnout on teachers, which featured in the Lab's earlier story 'Think of the teachers!'.
Congratulations, Glenys, on a wonderful contribution to the field.
